Indian tailor Madhav Agasti, a celebrated figure in the world of fashion, was recently honored with the prestigious Bharat Gaurav Award on July 3, 2025. The ceremony took place at the British Parliament in London, marking another significant achievement for the Mumbai-based craftsman. Agasti’s journey to becoming a renowned tailor is truly inspiring. Despite coming from a humble background and not having any formal education in fashion, he has carved a unique niche for himself.

Expressing his gratitude, Agasti shared, “I feel deeply honored to receive this award. It is not just a personal achievement but a tribute to the timeless skill of Indian craftsmanship and the countless artisans who have kept our traditions alive.” He also pledged to continue contributing to the industry he has dedicated his life to. With five decades of experience, Madhav Agasti has left an indelible mark on India’s fashion scene. His clientele includes high-profile figures such as former Presidents Pranab Mukherjee and Ram Nath Kovind, prominent chief ministers like Devendra Fadnavis, and numerous national leaders from Maharashtra.

Beyond political circles, Agasti’s talent also extends to Bollywood. He is credited with designing the iconic costume for the character Mogambo in the classic film Mr. India and crafting the stylish looks seen in Andaz Apna Apna. The Bharat Gaurav Award, an annual event hosted by the Sanskriti Yuva Sanstha, recognizes individuals of Indian origin who have made outstanding contributions in their fields and enhanced India’s global reputation.

Agasti received the award specifically for his remarkable five-decade-long impact on Indian fashion. Over the years, the Madhav Agasti brand has successfully blended traditional tailoring techniques with modern designs, adapting to changing trends while staying true to its roots. As the brand moves into a new phase, Agasti’s legacy will be carried forward by his son, Shantanu Agasti, and daughter-in-law, Avani Agasti, who are now taking over the business with plans to expand it while preserving its rich heritage.
