Kim Namjoon (RM) Celebrates AMA Triumph, Promises “Soon” Reunion for BTS
Kim Namjoon, widely known as RM, a member of the popular K-pop band BTS, celebrated a significant win in Los Angeles, USA in 2025, taking home the trophy for “Favorite K-pop Artist” at the American Music Awards (AMA). Even though he was serving his mandatory military duty in South Korea at the time, RM expressed his gratitude to his fans through BTS’s official social media account, writing, “Thank you for your love and support, #BTSARMY.” In an additional Instagram story, the 30-year-old singer and rapper hinted at his upcoming return from the military.
He re-shared a news article discussing the military discharge of BTS members and teasingly wrote, “It will be soon, seriously, soon.” RM secured the “Favorite K-Pop Artist” award after being nominated alongside other prominent K-pop acts, including BLACKPINK’s Rosé, ATEEZ, fellow BTS member Jimin, and Stray Kids. This victory recognized both his contributions as part of BTS and his successful work as a solo artist. His second solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, released in May 2024, played a significant role in his win.
Right Place, Wrong Person made a strong debut, reaching the top spot on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart and climbing to No. 5 on the Billboard 200. The album also dominated the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, with six of its tracks appearing in the top 10. Furthermore, a documentary titled RM: Right People, Wrong Place, which focused on the BTS leader, was released globally on December 5, 2024.
This followed its initial limited screenings after its premiere in October at the 29th Busan International Film Festival. BTS was expected to reunite as a group in 2025, following the completion of military service by its remaining members, including RM, V, Suga, Jimin, and Jungkook. Earlier in 2024, Jin and J-Hope had already completed their mandatory military duties in June and October, respectively.
