Hyderabad News Online : In Hyderabad, few blind people, navigated the streets with their walking sticks to reach the makeshift clinic on the Dabeerpura flyover. The evening’s darkness mirrored the loneliness they had felt since childhood. Thankfully, the team from Aman Vedika provided them with medical care right there on the street.
With a doctor, nurse, driver, and medical social worker, they offer free healthcare to homeless individuals across Hyderabad. For seven years, the Aman Vedika team has been visiting 22 locations over five days a week to treat homeless people. These areas were identified through a survey to locate areas with a higher population of homeless individuals.
Recognizing the reluctance of the homeless to seek medical help due to fear of judgment, the team decided to bring healthcare directly to them. Initially focusing on providing medicines, they soon realized the need for consultations with doctors and nursing care for injuries.
Each patient’s medical history is meticulously recorded, and essential medicines and supplies are distributed. Thanks to donations, volunteers now receive a small honorarium, and new members undergo thorough training. On a typical day, the team treats around 40 patients at various locations, including flyovers and railway stations. They address a range of health issues, from diabetes and hypertension to injuries and infections.
