Gujarat University Team Wins Award for Innovative Dengue Vaccine

Researchers at Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) in Gandhinagar, Gujarat have created a groundbreaking new dengue vaccine that won the “Best Societal Impact Award” at a recent competition.

Led by Dr. Ritesh Kumar, the team developed a vaccine that uses the body’s own immune cells, called T cells, to fight off the dengue virus. This is different from existing vaccines, which can sometimes make the infection worse.

The new vaccine works by training T cells to specifically target and destroy cells infected with the dengue virus. This approach aims to reduce the risk of serious side effects that can occur with other vaccines.

Dr. Kumar explained that this new and unique innovative technology has the potential to revolutionize the treatment of various diseases, including cancer, by harnessing the power of the immune system.

Dengue fever is a serious illness spread by mosquitoes. While most people recover, some can experience severe complications. This new vaccine offers a promising solution to this global health challenge.
