And now, this institution has received a truly prestigious honor: the Award of Merit from the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation!

This award shines a spotlight on the BJPCI, recognizing its architectural significance and the importance of preserving its rich heritage for generations to come.

This prestigious award celebrates the successful restoration of the 134-year-old institution. The Virtusa Foundation took on the important task of restoring this historic structure.

The Virtusa Foundation didn’t just renovate a building; they breathed new life into a piece of Mumbai’s soul. By revitalizing the BJPCI, they’ve not only protected a vital link to the city’s past but also ensured that this remarkable institution will continue to empower and educate underserved communities for generations to come.

The project, led by conservation architect Vikas Dilawari and supported by the Virtusa Foundation, beautifully restored the school’s intricate architectural details, including its delicate teakwood screens and vibrant stained glass windows.

The school was designed by the Victorian architect and engineer, Khan Bahadur Muncherji C. Murzban, and is one of the few remaining buildings in Mumbai that showcases the Gothic architectural style.

Founded in 1890 by Byramjee Jeejeebhoy, the restored BJPCI maintains its historical importance while being modernized for today’s students. Currently, the BJPCI educates over 1,500 students.
